The Hudson Valley offers a large array of unique and special ways to celebrate Mother’s Day this year. If you are looking for something different to do with mom, here are several choices, varied enough to solve every price point:

Horticulture. Instead a buying a bouquet of flowers, why not take mom to the source: Botanical Gardens. Located on 150 acres in Millbrook the Innisfree Garden would make an ideal location for you and mom to stop and smell the roses. Click here for details. Streams, waterfalls, terraces, retaining walls, rocks, and plants create this public garden based on the ancient art of Chinese landscape design. There is a $5 entrance fee for adults on Sunday. Children under four years of age are free.

Washington Park in Albany, NY will host the 64th Annual Tulip Festival on May 12th and 13th from 11AM to 6PM. Admission is free. Over 100,000 tulip blooms in a sea of color will be on display. Children’s activities, crafts, delicious food and the 14th Annual Mother Of The Year Award will be given out on Mother’s Day. Click here for full details.

Frederick W. Vanderbilt Garden located in Hyde Park on the historic Vanderbilt Estate. Modeled after America’s Gilded Age, its location on the banks of New York’s beautiful Hudson River Valley also affords magnificent views of one of the most important places in American history. Free admission. Click here for directions and hours.

Adams Fairacre Farms. With locations throughout the Hudson Valley, perhaps mom is an avid gardener and would prefer a gift packet of seeds, plantings or garden tools. Log onto Adam’s website by clicking here to find mom the perfect gift.

Self-Indulgence. What woman would not love a day at a spa, a massage, a facial, a manicure, a pedicure or all of the above?

Haven Spa in Rhinebeck is offering several Mother’s Day Dream Spa Packages that include pampering from head to toe complete with a spa lunch. There’s also a Serene Mother/Daughter Package so that both of you can spend quality time together. Prices start at $275 for a full day to $60 for a classic manicure for mom and a Princess mani/pedi for your little princess. Click here for more info.

Chocolates. With locations in Saugerties and New Paltz, in addition to their online store, life for mom might just be a box of indulgent Krause chocolates. Click here for locations or to order online.

Mom’s Best Friend. If Fido and mom are one, the Pause Dog Boutique in Rhinebeck has the perfect gift for the two of them. Click here for more details. Does mom want Fido to learn Frisbee or have better manners? Mention this article and receive a 10% Mother’s Day discount at Sirius Dog Training. Click here for more info.

Picnics. The Hudson Valley has many quaint, peaceful parks for the whole family to relax in and have a picnic. Click here to find a NY Park closest to you and mom.

Most mansions along the Hudson River sport picnic tables and/or a quiet stretch of lawn, complete with a river view, just perfect for mom. Some suggestions are Mills Mansion in Straatsburg, and The Boat House, located at the northern end of The Vanderbilt Estate in Hyde Park. In addition to having a picnic, the Clermont Mansion in Germantown is sponsoring a Mother’s Day Tea. Admission is $12 per person. Reservations are required. Access to the picnic grounds is free.

For an all around picnic location with an actual Train Station Museum and playground for the kids, the Hyde Park Station makes an ideal choice. Log on here for directions and hours of operation.
